The special features of this valley, which extends to the south west of Pistoia, is thermal springs, nurseries in Pescia and the Pinocchio park in Collodi.
The thermal springs are located in Monsummano and Montecatini Terme. Both places have grottos where it is possible to take therapeutic bath for curative purposes or simply for the general well being of the body. The town of Montecatini has many elegant shops providing an enjoyable time.
Pescia is the international capital of cut flowers. A flower fair is held in Pescia every two years. After, we come to Collodi
which is the birth place of the author of the celebrated Pinocchio. The Pinocchio Park was build by the city to honor the author and
his main character. Above the park is Villa Garzoni with a garden considered to be one of the most beautiful in all of Italy. Built in
Baroque style it makes full use of all the most scenic elements a garden can have; fountains, water play, trees and bushes modeled into the shapes of animals, waterfalls and statues.
To the north of Pistoia at 1400 meters we come across the place in the Apennines which sees the most tourists both in summer and winter. From December to end of April is possible skiing in Abetone. This is a international station for ski with modern lifts and 52 Km of slopes. European contests are run here for ski and snowboard. During the summer, the state owned forest of Abetone, extending over 3,700 hectares, is much appreciated by ramblers.
