Art to the Art Tuscany News

The cultural Association of Continuous Art of Saint Gimignano organizes over the last ten years Art to the Art. An international symposium of contemporary art that recalls a group of Tuscan artists of great reputation. The exhibition will run until January the 6th 2006. For the decennial edition, the curators who have worked on the event since its inception has been asked to choose the six artists represented you of the history of Art to the Art. The principle of the selection was to indicate who, in their view, have most fully expressed the spirit of Arte all’Arte through the art work designed previously for the project. The selection was made from between the 70 artists who have been involved in the event over the years. The six artists who have been invited to produce a specific work for the towns in the Art to the Art circuit are: Anish Kapoor - San Gimignano, Olafur Eliasson - Siena, Cai Guo-Qiang - Colle di Val d’Elsa, Alberto Garutti - Buonconvento, Sislej Xhafa - Montalcino, and Tobias Rehberger - Poggibonsi. The artists spend some time in the towns and then each one produces a site-specific work in a public space.

There are now 21 permanent installations in the Art to the Art circuit, which make up a modern art itinerary in the province of Siena. The itinerary winds its way around the province and includes works by internationally celebrated artists; these works have become an important part of the area’s cultural heritage. Since 1996, food and wine experts have selected 139 producers that have been included in the Arte all’Arte guide. Art to the Art project has developed the charity campaign Art x Wine = Water. The money collected has been used to bring water to Brazil, Senegal, India, Israel and Palestine. Art to the Art is a project that tries to establish a new balance between city and country and to create new ties between Art, Architecture and Landscape, giving back to art main role in shaping cities and the landscape.
