During the month of August small towns and districts around Florence celebrate hundreds of local festivals, many townsman have intent to escape from summer city heat even for a few hours, there’s nothing better than traditional summer festivals (sagras) for great food and entertainment.
These local festivals are held year-round but in August they offer a real taste of local cuisine.

In Corezzo in Chiusi della Verna, near Arezzo, from August 11 to 13, travelers can visit the Festa del Tortello e del Raviolo, or try wild boar on August 12 to 15 in Palazzuolo sul Senio.

In Prato’s main piazza on August 15 is "Watermelon Celebration", or maybe is worth to visit the outskirts of Lucca in search of local wines and delicious grilled pork - the traditional Sagra del Maiale will be celebrated in Barga on August 19 to 20.

In the province of Massa Carrara from August 23 to 25 will be Lard Festival in Colonnata, it is a cold cut traditionally enjoyed side dish, sliced thin and accompanied by bread and tomatoes. A unique cold cut, this lard is spiced with cinnamon, coriander, cloves, aniseand oregano.
