Sagra del Cinghiale, Capalbio 11-09-2008 to 14-09-2008

Capalbio, a small town in the south of Tuscany, held traditional festival of the wild boar with historical cortege and horse racing. The festival is a basically gastronomic fair to celebrate all the classical recipes in which wild-boar is prepared and served.

Every year in second weekend of September, when the herds of wild boar are thinned out by hunters, the town puts on a big party to celebrate. The festival starts on Thursday with the opening of the food stands and continues through Sunday night with concerts and celebration. The cooking and eating are continual events serving up the rich, strong flavored meat to the several thousand people who attend the feast.

The Festival is characterized with a true celebration of the wild boar, and with other local products which originates from this area.

Capalbio

Capalbio is a small town in the south of Tuscany, situated on a green hill near the sea. It has a population of 4100 inhabitants. The most ancient document mentioning Capalbio, is the Leonino Carolingia bull through which Carlo Magno, donated the Castle of the Three Fontanas Abbey to Rome. Some historians support, instead, that the village was inhabited since the most remote antiquity; this is confirmed also by the finding of tombs of the bronze and archaic age.
