Wine to the Wine, this is a wine festival held on the third weekend in September (19 to 21 September 2008) in the main square. Wine from many of the Panzano wineries is available to be sampled. There is music and great festive atmosphere. Panzano has a beautiful hill-top location with some of the most attractive views of rural Tuscany. The third weekend in September brings the “Vino al Vino” festival in the main piazza of Panzano, celebrating the excellent wine and food of the area with music and festivities. The event is very friendly and it is an opportunity to taste some great wine.
Panzano is of Roman origin but the settlement is older since Etruscan finds have been made in the neighborhood. The first documentary evidence is 11 C, when the development of the "borgo", the village around the castle, took place. The castle stands on a ridge separating the Val di Greve from the Val di Pesa, exactly halfway between Florence and Sienna, between which it was always a source of contention. There are some remnants of the old Roman paved roads, the Senice, which are still in use.
The best way to visit Panzano is to come by car from Florence or Sienna along Route 222, the very attractive "Chiantigiana" highway passing through the Chianti wine area. It is also possible to reach Panzano by SITA bus from Florence. The trip takes one hour.
