This is an introduction -that is by no means comprehensive- to some Tuscans working in the film industry. Moving away from the more technical aspects of film production, one finds that Tuscany is the home of many famous actors. Perhaps the first person on our list should be Yves Montand, whose real name is Ivo Livi. He was born in Pistoia and immigrated to Marseilles with his family as a teen-ager. From a Tuscan "renegade" to the stars of the past: Francesca Bertini, the greatest diva of the Italian silent movies, was Florentine. Tuscany was also home to two others beauties that vied for the crown of movie queen during the Thirties, Doris Duranti and Clara Calamai. The latter is also known for audaciously showing her breasts in 1941, in La Cena delle Beffe by Blasetti. In the fifties the refined and modern femininity of the former model Elsa Martinelli represented Tuscany in the Italian cinema and, a decade later, international film (she acted with Anthony Perkins in The Trial by Orson Welles and with John Wayne in Hatari! by Howard Hawks). At the end of the fifties and the beginning of the Sixties Renato Salvatori, a well known face in Italian comedy and the magnificent lead in Rocco and His Brothers by Visconti, was among the most popular actors of his time. Stefania Sandrelli officially made her debut in '61 in Divorce-Italian Style by Pietro Germi.
