Museo dei Bozzetti, Pietrasanta, Tuscany Travel Guide

The Museum of the Sketches is an only institution of this kind in this part of Tuscany. The art of sculpture has been practiced for centuries, and this museum is concrete testimony to the now consolidated role of the Versilia as an international point of reference for those who work in this field. Established in 1984, museum houses reduced-scale bozzeti, (preliminary sketches made by a sculptor) and life size models that represent the artist’s original idea prior to its transformation into a finished work. Made from the most disparate materials (plaster, wood, paper, teracotta), they range in size from a few centimeters to over a few meters, with the weight varying accordingly.

The museum collection today collects more than 600 sketches and models (mostly in chalk) of sculptures from 350 Italian and foreign artists. The works realized on the base of these sketches are found in museums, collections and parks around the world.

Pietrasanta

Pietrasanta is a lovely town on the coast of northern Tuscany in the province of Lucca. Located 3 km from the coast, Pietrasanta straddles the last foothills of the Apuan Alps. It is 45 km north of Pisa and 1.5 hours from Florence.
